“We are plastics”
German plastics value chain joining forces for a sustainable future

With the joint initiative "We are Plastics", the three large plastics associations Gesamtverband Kunststoffverarbeitende Industrie (GKV – Plastics Processing Industries), PlasticsEurope Deutschland and Fachverband Kunststoff- und Gummimaschinen (association for plastics and rubber machinery, a division of VDMA German Engineering Federation) built a unique value chain alliance to implement the circular economy and create more sustainability within the key sectors of the plastics industry (converters, manufacturers and machinery).

With the five GKV member associations, a total of eight partners are committed to the circular economy mission, acting together to transform the plastics industry. Open communication in particular plays an essential role to reach this goal. With the new platform www.deinkunststoff.de providing facts and data about the industry transition, the players want to gain trust in plastics as enablers of a sustainable future.

In the upcoming months, the partners want to foster the industry’s engagement and commitment towards circular economy via digital and face-to-face events, specific first-rate media coverage and targeted social media communications.

Ingemar Bühler, managing director PlasticsEurope Deutschland, about the initiative: “As the plastics industry, we are driving the change to more circular economy and sustainability. With the platform “We are Plastics”, the actors of the German value chain combine their energy and arguments to demonstrate at full power their potential and motivation.”
