Workshop: Waste Management Innovations: Promoting Circularity and Preventing Plastic Waste Leakage
Wednesday 30 June: 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. (CET)
This webinar aims to address the challenge of plastic waste facing our world today and will focus on opportunities for preventing the leakage of waste into the natural environment. Speakers will shed light on the issue from a global perspective, highlighting the primary sources of plastic waste, the major waste hotspots, the opportunities to re-think our approach to ‘hard to recycle’ plastics, and the potential impact on land and marine environments.
Anne-Gaelle Collot, Senior Manager Consumer & Environmental Affairs at PlasticsEurope will present during the first session, “the plastic challenge and the LCA approach”, which will introduce the current state of the challenge of plastic waste from a global lens. It will cover the main sources of plastic waste, the global hotspots, the ‘hard to recycle’ plastics, and the potential impact on land and marine environments. It will also show that by applying a detailed Life Cycle Assessment, plastics can have a lower carbon impact, especially within a circular economy, compared to other materials. In this session, Anne-Gaelle will be joined by Dr. Rachel Meidl, Center for Energy Studies of the Baker Institute for Public Policy.
