initiatives, opportunities and successes.

 

This event features speakers from government, retail and industry, who will present on
topics including carbon neutrality, funding options and government policy.

14.05   Governmental Legislation Related to Plastics Sustainability and the Road
             Ahead for the Resources and Waste Strategy
             Linda Crichton, Defra

             Linda Crichton at Defra will provide attendees with an update on the UK government
             position on sustainability, government aims and how this will affect the plastics
             industry.

             She will discuss ongoing legislative reforms such as DRS, EPR and Consistent
             Collections and how these will drive up resource efficiency.

            Nick Smith, Vice President, Strategy and Portfolio Development at Covestro, will
            explain how Covestro is looking to achieve carbon neutrality, its goals and any
            problems it has encountered along the way.

            Paul Davidson, Innovate UK

            Paul Davidson, Challenge Director for Smart Sustainable Plastics Packaging at
            UK Research and Innovation, will provide attendees with an update on the funding
            opportunities available to your organisation, how you can apply and what you
            can expect.

15.45   BPF Recycling Roadmap
            Helen Jordan, British Plastics Federation

            Helen Jordan, Senior Recycling Issues Executive at the British Plastics Federation
            will provide delegates with an overview of the British Plastics Federations recycling
            roadmap, explaining what the capacity for plastics recycling is in the UK and how this
            could change and grow in the next decade.

            Helen will also explain what is needed to cut UK exports of plastic waste and recycle
            more in the UK.

15.55   Panel on Plastics Sustainability

             During this session our panel of industry experts will debate plastics sustainability,
             looking at how we can achieve plastics sustainability and the potential issues facing
             us

16.15   The Role of Plastics Recycling in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
            Tim Duret, Veolia

           Tim Duret, Organics and Technology Director at Veolia, will present on the role of
           plastics recycling in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the context of the
           net-zero emission target and the research undertaken by Veolia on ‘Examining
           material evidence - the carbon fingerprint’ . He will explore the importance of
           lifecycle assessments for examining the sustainability of plastics, also taking into
           account the current debates around the circular economy, resource efficiency and
           the transition to different materials.
