EU plastics production and demand - first estimates for 2020

The first estimates of production and demand for plastics finds that 2020 has been a particularly challenging, and atypical year. At global level, results remain stable, while Europe shows noticeable decline as a direct impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Plastic Museum, already disassembled and on the way to being recycled

The Plastic Museum, the first 100% recyclable museum in the world, was born with the idea of being disassembled on International Recycling Day. Being built entirely with plastics, it has been disassembled to reuse and recycle floors, walls and ceilings, and thus create with these materials some products that will be part of the collection "I used to be a museum".

The first 100% recyclable Plastic Museum in the World.

EsPlásticos, the Spanish plastic value chain platform, inaugurated on 8 May 2021, with Jose Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, Borja Carabante, Environment councilor for the Madrid City Council, and Dolors Montserrat, MEP of Partido Popular in the European Parliament, the first 100% recyclable Plastic Museum in the World: The Plastic Museum.

Event Explores How to Achieve Sustainability in Plastics

The British Plastics Federation (BPF), in collaboration with PlasticsEurope, is hosting a half-day online seminar called Achieving Sustainability in Plastics on 27 April. The event will look at circularity initiatives, achieving carbon neutrality and the funding available to companies to help accelerate innovation.

Event report: "A New Paradigm for Plastics and Their Role in the EU’s Zero-Emission Economy Plans" on 25 March

Virginia Janssens, Managing Director PlasticsEurope, joined EU Environment Commissioner Sinkevičius and leading policy experts on 25 March to debate the role of plastics in Europe’s economy, with a particular emphasis on Poland. Organised by Euractiv Poland, and under the patronage of the European Commission and the Polish Ministry of Development, Labour and Technology, the event was entitled "A New Paradigm for Plastics and Their Role in the EU’s Zero-Emission Economy Plans".

Circular Economy anniversary - reflections from the plastics industry

11 March 2021, the European Commission’s second Circular Economy Action Plan celebrates its first birthday– a date I also share as marking my first year as Managing Director of PlasticsEurope. When the Commission published the plan this day last year, many of us were in our first days of working from home and could not have imagined still being there 12 months later. But we also could not have imagined how much progress in developing policies could have been made from home.
